Saving for a Rainy Day

Comedian George Burns said, “People tell me I should save for a rainy day. But with my luck it will never rain and I’ll be stuck with all that money.”

In most lives some rain does fall. It helps to be ready when that happens. The Bible teaches, “The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends whatever he gets.” (Proverbs 21:20)

The late Charlie Shedd, the wonderful Methodist minister, gave good advice to young couples preparing for marriage when he said, “You should give 10%, save 10%, and spend the rest with thanksgiving and joy.”

Learn to give generously. Learn to save wisely. Learn to live happily. Remember, it wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.
